IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard E.
Paine
May 12, 1922 – March 20, 2016
Greenfield Center, NY – Richard (Dick) E. Paine, 93, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, March 20, 2016 after a long illness. He was looking forward to being reunited with his loving wife Doris.
Born in Saratoga Springs on May 12, 1922 to parents, the late Edwin and Ethel (Davis) Paine, Richard spent most of his life in the Saratoga area. He was most at home near the woods, mountains, lakes and streams that he loved.
Richard joined the US Navy the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served our country honorably during WWII on three different ships in all theaters of the war. He was proud of his contribution and enjoyed seeing many parts of the world, from Iceland to New Zealand, and many ports between.
His working career started with his father as a house painter after the war. Richard then worked for GE but found his true calling in sales. He worked for Suburban Gas and then for many years at Standard Furniture in Saratoga. A combination of honesty and charm endeared him to customers. He retired from Standard Furniture and then worked a few part time jobs until he fully retired at age 75 to devote all of his energy to his newfound love – golf. Richard started golfing late in life and loved it. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, kayaking and cross country skiing, especially when sharing these activities with family. He loved his annual trips to New Hampshire to visit his little sister Shirley and family.
In addition to his parents and his wife Doris, Richard was predeceased by his brother Webster.
Survivors include his brothers, W. Robert Paine of Kennebunkport, ME, Miles Paine of Clifton Park, Edwin Paine of Florida and a sister Shirley FitzGerald of Middleton, NH; his children, Bryan Paine of Gansevoort, Scott Paine of Greenfield and Lisa Macarelli of Clifton Park; grandchildren Mathew Paine of Clifton Park, Maggie Paine of Gansevoort and Meagan Macarelli of Clifton Park.
There will be no calling hours and funeral services will be conducted at 11am Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes. 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373).
