IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard
Swantek
October 30, 1931 – April 25, 2021
Saratoga Springs, NY- Surrounded by his loving family and in the comfort of his home, Richard Swantek peacefully passed away on April 25, 2021 after a richly fulfilled life. He was 89 years old.
Richard is survived by his adoring wife of 70 years, Josie and their three children; Steve Swantek of White Bear, MN, Susan (Swantek) Rowland (Rich) of Saratoga Springs and John Swantek (Holly) of Atlantic Beach, FL. He was pre-deceased by his first child, Richard Jr., by his twin sister, Ruth, and left behind another sister, June (Swantek) Marx of Albany. Richard was also the proud grandfather to seven (Matt, Ricky, Cara, Bridget, Samantha, Nick and Jack) who were sprinkled around the country but always close in his heart.
A native of Albany, graduate of St. John's High School in Rensselaer and Siena College and veteran of the United States Navy, Richard and his young family moved to Saratoga Springs in 1968 and immediately became entrenched in a community that he would call home for more than a half century. Along with his 42 years of steadfast employment with Niagara Mohawk power company (National Grid), he lent his thoughtfulness and dedication to a multitude of civic and charitable organizations through the years; initiated by his tenure as president of the Board of the Greater Saratoga Chamber of Commerce in 1971. With retirement in 1991 came winter getaways to Florida, the seamless transition from work to leisure and from dad to grandpa, along with the opportunity to watch his children raise their children, something that he deeply cherished. And always, there was time to break bread with his many dear friends, for golf, card games, bowling, and annual "donations" to Saratoga Race Course. Rooted in a foundation of faith, "Swanny" was a man of authentic character and compassion, who enriched the lives of everyone who knew him, his family above all. They ask that you remember him with celebration in a life that was, quite simply, well lived!
