Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Robert Earl Burke, 85yr, passed away peacefully, Friday June 2nd, 2023, surrounded by his close family members. He was born in Saratoga Springs, NY April 15th, 1938, to parents George Burke Sr. and Alice Hammond Dake (both deceased). He was a 1955 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, where he was involved in many school & sport activities. He then went on to a 4 year college in Utica, NY and earned a degree in Engineering. He then began his successful career at General Dynamics in Groton Conn.  It was at this time he met and then married "his Rose" (Rosalie Mitchell).  They were married for 57 years until her passing in 2016.

Bob was employed by General Dynamics/Electric Boat for 40 years, respected by many and sought out to serve in many capacities for his knowledge & abilities. During this time, he & his wife lived in Connecticut, California & Saratoga Springs NY where they raised their 3 children. Due to his work, he also traveled to beautiful countries like Guam, Philippines, Spain & Scotland, performing ship checks, but his heart always remained with his family and when he returned, he not only brought special gifts for each of them but also brought amazing stories too.

While living in Uncasville Conn, he and his wife were very active in little league and he was instrumental in coordinating the construction for the first baseball field in his community. Bob always loved being involved with his children, whether it was watching baseball, working on motor bikes or watching his daughter perform during her dance recitals. He always wanted to be there for them. In the late 70's Bob & his wife moved back to Saratoga Springs to be close to family and friends.  It was here that he felt at home, enjoying family and the town where he grew up.

He was a lifetime member of the Principessa Elena Society & communicant of St. Mary's Church in Ballston Spa, as well as active in other community activities.

He was an avid Sports Fan, always cheering for the Dodgers, NY Giants and Boston Celtics. He loved Irish music, his wife's Italian cooking, his extended family and so enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick's Day! Bob would welcome anyone to his home, greet them with a smile, and would never speak ill of anyone. He enjoyed and was a master of the daily crossword puzzles, never missing the correct word. He loved the summer track season, entertaining friends and family, and gave generous donations to anyone in need. His most favorite thing was spending time with his grandchildren!

Robert "Bob" was predeceased by his parents; wife Rose; his brothers George Jr, and Timothy Burke; and his sisters Rosemary Flanagan and Marge Baldwin.

He is survived by his children Paul Burke (Mimi), Brenda Antonino (husband Charles), and Bobby Burke; sister and brother Carol Alden and James Burke; sisters-in-law Marge Burke, Donna Maynard, Darlene DeLancey and Gilda Gogal; grandchildren LeeAnn Burke, Jillian Antonino (husband Anthony), Charlie Antonino Jr. (Kerry), and Michael Antonino (Lucy); great grandchild Charlotte Rose Gambardella; Luna the dog; and many nieces & nephews who just loved "Uncle Bob".

Robert Burke will truly be missed and will always remain in our hearts and know now he is with "his Rose" once again.
