IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert A.
Caruso, Sr.
April 6, 1940 – September 30, 2016
Gansevoort, NY – With his loving family by his bedside, Robert A. Caruso Sr., age 76, passed away at the Wells House in Johnstown on Friday evening September 30, 2016. With their support and the support of many friends, Bob fought a brief but brave battle with GBM brain cancer.
Born on April 6, 1940 in Fort Edward, NY, Bob was the son of the late Charles W. and Susie T. Cimo Caruso. Upon graduation from Fort Edward High School, Bob joined the Navy, both in active duty and as a reservist. He served aboard the USS Beatty, the USS Haley and the USS Little Rock CLG4. He loved the sea. One of Bob's happiest memories occurred during the time he was stationed in Italy. Bob and his family were able to visit the birthplace of his mother, Susie, in Fondi. There, they were able to meet his Italian relatives with whom, to this day, are still close. It was truly a special experience for Bob and one he would always treasure.
Bob was also a retiree of the Scott Paper Company in Fort Edward. Last acting as a purchasing agent for the company, Bob, in previous years, would teach basic paper making skills to children at local schools. He always enjoyed seeing the smiles and laughter of the children when they finally rolled out one of Scott's famous products-TP. He also worked in the mill performing many different jobs.
As a young boy and as a youth, Bob worked alongside his father building "Camp Andre" on Adirondack Lake. He and his siblings would spend many summer and winter nights there fishing, hunting and swimming. Bob often brought his own children to "Camp" to enjoy the same activities.
Anyone who knew Bob was aware of how much he loved his coffee and donuts at Stewarts!
He and Linda could often be found at the Jones Road Stewarts in Wilton. He loved to visit, laugh and kid around with all who worked there. He will be missed. According to Bob, his greatest blessing and happiness was serving his Father, Jehovah God. He was an active minister in the Door to Door Ministry of Jehovah's Witnesses. He would visit many in their homes sharing the Good News of the many promises God's Kingdom would bring, including the resurrection of our loved ones back to a Paradise Earth. He knew, according to the Bible, the Paradise Earth is God's original purpose for mankind. And, even though Adam and Eve lost that hope for us, Jehovah God has not changed that purpose. Soon, these last days will end and Paradise Earth will be a reality along with the resurrection of our dead loved ones.
Bob loved to build and was often busy working on small projects at home. This love of building carried over to one of his greatest joys – working with the RBC (Regional Building) of Jehovah's Witnesses. He and Linda would travel to many areas of New York State building local Kingdom Halls of Jehovah's Witnesses. Many times, Bob would be at the site a week before the build, setting up the receiving department. He loved this volunteer work and the association of his many spiritual brothers and sisters.
Bob also served as an Elder in the local Saratoga Springs East Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses where he encouraged and comforted many who too lost loved ones in death.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony Caruso of Fort Edward and Jerry Caruso of Hudson Falls.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Hayes), for whom he was an Alzheimer's caregiver; his three children, Valerie, Charles and Robert Jr. along with their families; his sister, Carol Cicero of Hudson Falls; his brother Charles of Florida and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his family in Fondi, Italy; Anna (Cherubino) Salemme and her husband Giuseppe, Rosalba and her husband Tonino and their daughter Giulia and the families of Massimo, Patricia, Egidia and Roberta.
We wish to thank the INCREDIBLE STAFF of Wells House in Johnstown for their loving and compassionate support of Bob and his family. Your EXCEPTIONAL CARE will never be forgotten. Thank you ALL SO MUCH!
