Saratoga Springs, NY - Robert Eugene Conners passed away peacefully on Thursday October 26, 2017 at his residence the Teresian House in Albany. He was 96 years old.

Born on January 24, 1921and raised in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late John F and Amy (Joubert) Conners. He graduated high school in 1940 where he enjoyed being the sports writer for the school newspaper. He proudly served 3 ½ years in the Army during World War II in Europe, Rhineland and Italy with the 36th Texas Division, 142nd Infantry. He fondly remembered the joyous faces on the civilians they liberated. He received numerous decorations and citations including the Bronze Star. Returning home, he met and in 1951 married Verona F Hughes. They moved to San Francisco in 1952 where Bob worked at United Airlines while attending barber school. They returned to Saratoga Springs and he opened his barber shop next to the high school which he ran for 18 years. When long hair came into fashion, he became a school bus driver and served Saratoga Springs Schools for 16 years. He enjoyed both careers and had many wonderful stories from each. Bob was a loving and dedicated family man raising two children. He loved to travel and took his family all over the northeast and cross country, visiting 35 states. Bob and Verona enjoyed retirement with more local travel and then senior living at Embury Apartments. When Verona entered Wesley Healthcare, Bob went with her where they lived together for 3 years. After her death, he moved to Teresian House to be closer to his daughter.

In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by his son Bruce E. (1974), his wife Verona H. (2010), all his siblings John, James, Charles, William, Mary (Patterson) and Carol (Emigh) and his brother-in-law Ernest Hughes.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Conners of Duanesburg, NY, many nieces and nephews, and his four-legged buddy "Spenser".

The family wishes to thank the Wesley Healthcare staff and the Teresian House staff, both adding many compassionate blessings to their lives.

Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 2pm Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373). A funeral service will follow at 2pm.

Burial with military honors will follow at the family plot in Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Ave.
