Saratoga Springs, NY - Robert E. Covell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014 at Wesley Health Care Center. He was 95. Born on Dec. 16, 1918 in Saratoga Spring, he was the son of the late Emmett I. and Mary (Morgan) Covell. Bob was in the Army from 1940 to 1944. He worked for the NYS Dept. of Transportation until his retirement in 1984. Bob loved telling "war stories" to anyone who would listen. He lived a very long life enjoying his family, the outdoors, traveling and his canine companions. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by four wives; his son Robert G. Covell, Sr and a grandson, Robert G. Covell, Jr. and several siblings. Survivors include his daughter Mary Simon; daughter-in-law Lona Cole; grandchildren David Simon, Renee Covell, Melanie Covell-Crowd and Kelly Simon-Nolan. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call from 12noon to 2pm Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Funeral services will follow at 2pm at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at 10am Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
