Obituary

Wilton, NY - Robert (Jeep) Cummings passed away peacefully on March 14, 2022 at the age of 82.

Robert, more well known as Jeep, was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, NY. He attended St. Peter's High School and then he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a highly successful and well liked car salesman at Heath/Topper/Champion selling Buicks and Pontiacs for decades on South Broadway. He was retired and living in Wilton, NY when he passed.

Jeep loved living in Saratoga Springs and lived his entire life here. He was a sports lover, especially horse racing. He was a die hard Mets and Giants fan and loved to watch his children and granddaughter excel at their individual sports and other accomplishments. It was not uncommon to see Jeep at the Racetrack or the Harness Track. He was well known by everyone in the community and everyone seemed to know his name.

Jeep loved his Granddaughter Keellyn and was her biggest fan and supporter. She was the light of his life and their relationship was so special. He often told her stories of his life, some true some not. He encouraged her both academically and athletically. His "speedball" was often in the paper for her running accomplishments and he was usually the first to buy the newspaper she was in.

Jeep has two sons, Jay and Jeff and his precious daughter Jamie, who had the nerve to be born on Kentucky Derby day in 1975. His boys were gifted with his love of sports and played them well, always with Jeep in the crowd cheering them on. Jamie definitely got her good natured attitude and love of helping others from him. Jamie is a teacher in North Carolina and the two talked every Sunday. He was so proud of her, especially for being the Cary, North Carolina Teacher of the Year. He always told his children and granddaughter that they could do anything they set their minds to if they worked hard.

Jeep was married to his wife Joan in 1966. Jeep was Oscar to Joan's Felix and she cared for him until the day he passed. Together they raised three children and having family gatherings; brothers, sisters, children, nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends was so important to them. Telling old stories was Jeep's talent and the whole family loved to hear them and laughter always seemed to follow him.

Preceding Jeep were his parents Robert Cummings Sr. and Jane Cummings, his siblings Kay Doherty and William (Billy) Cummings. Jeep is also survived by his wife Joan; his sons Jay (Colleen and Keellyn) and Jeff; his daughter Jamie; his brother Pete Landon (Peg); and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
