Obituary

Latham, NY – Robert R. Gooley, formerly of Stillwater, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was 87.

Born October 17, 1929 in Mechanicville, he was the son of the late Ernest and Beatrice Hyatt Gooley. Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He owned and operated Gooley's Hardware Store in Stillwater for 22 years. Bob then went to work for the New York State Office of General Services, retiring as a supervisor in 1991. He also worked part time for NAPA in Mechanicville. Bob will always be remembered for the log cabin that he built with his family and friends on Blizzard Road, his many rabbits, that everyone seemed to have been given at one time or another and swimming with the fishes in his well-stocked pond.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his three brothers; Roland, Allen and Gordon Gooley and one sister Beatrice Sorell.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Beverly DeCelle Gooley; their daughters, Diane Gooley of Guilderland and Dorinda Fiore of East Syracuse; two grandchildren, Mason Fiore and his wife Katlyn and Selena Fiore; one great-granddaughter Serenity Fiore and his sister Joan Anuszewski and her husband Joe.

Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Sunday, February 12, 2017 at The Chase – Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Ave., Mechanicville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Monday, February 13, 2017 at All Saints-on-the-Hudson (South Church) 121 North Main St., Mechanicville by the Rev. Thomas Morrette, pastor.

Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.

Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373).

In lieu of flowers, Bob's family has asked that donations in his memory be made to a charity of one's choice.
