IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert A.
Gratton
April 1, 1947 – September 15, 2025
Saratoga Springs, NY – Robert A. Gratton (Bob) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and devoted wife of 57 years, Susan, on September 15 2025.
Bob was born in Saratoga Springs New York on April 1, 1947. He is the son of Wilfred and Catherine Gratton of Saratoga Springs and grew up between Miami and Saratoga Springs, completing his education at Saratoga Springs High School in 1965. He would continue living in Saratoga and wintering in Florida for the remainder of his life. Bob is a retired member of the Saratoga Springs police department serving from 1970 to 1978 when his career was cut short in a line of duty accident. Despite his inability to remain at the police department Bob continued to provide for his family with various means of self-employment. He is remembered for his savvy business sense in all of his endeavors. Feeling a continued call to protect and serve, he dedicated his later years to working as an armed security guard with Tri-Rail in Delray Beach, Florida. Bob's post-retirement life was marked by a continuing work ethic and a deep commitment to his friends, family and community.
Outside of his professional life, Bob was known for his gregarious nature and generosity. Bob had the ability to know what people needed before they did and was always willing to offer a helping hand. He was heavily involved in his community, from coaching his daughters' softball team to running for public office. He was routinely sought after for his guidance and wisdom and would always give back wherever he could. Whenever he had a spare moment you could find him fishing on Lincoln Pond, Golfing various golf courses, hosting Sunday dinners for all his friends cheering on the Buffalo Bills, growing hundreds of pepper plants along with a "few vegetables" in his garden and baking bread.
The most fortunate moment of Bob's life was when he met his greatest love, Susan. Together they raised 2 amazing daughters instilling values like work ethic, kindness, determination and generosity. Through the years he developed a beautiful relationship with his grandchildren.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Catherine Gratton along with his eldest brother Wilfred (Ali) Gratton of Gastonia NC. He is survived by his loving wife Susan and his daughters, Cheryl Pedone (Michael) and Deborah Gratton (Brian). He has 5 beautiful grandchildren, Rickey Hagadorn (Britney), Camryn Kail (Tyler), Nicholas Pedone, Anthony Pedone (Meg) and Haley Pedone (Tyler). In addition to that he was blessed with 3 great grandchildren, Aubriella, Charleigh Sue and Gabriel; and his brother Frank Gratton(Sandy) and Sister Anne Gratton. Last but not least his sidekick Levi has been by his side through countless adventures, car rides and keeping the squirrels out of the garden.
