Obituary

Glens Falls, NY- Robert D. Kearney died on March 4, 2023 at The Pines at Glens Falls Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Glens Falls.

Born on October 22, 1934 in Kansas City, MO, he was the son of the late, Katherine E. and Harold C. Kearney.  He graduated from the Shawnee Mission High School, Mission, KS and received a BA from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1957.  After graduating he enlisted in the Army Security Service and was trained in the Russian Language at the Army Language School in Monterey, CA.  Upon completion of his service he moved to San Francisco, CA where he worked for Wells Fargo Bank and The Alameda County Welfare Dept.  In 1969, he received a Master of Library Science degree from U.C. Berkeley thereafter working for Daly City Public Library and California College of Podiatric Medicine (S.F., CA)

In 1979, he joined the Episcopal Church where he met The Rev. Paul Evans.  They formed a partnership in the business: The Anglican Bibliopole, a principle resource for out-of-print theological books.  They moved the business to Saratoga Springs, NY in 1982 where it existed until they retired in 2011.

Bob was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Troy, NY and an Associate of Holy Cross Monastery, West Park, NY.  He enjoyed travel including trips to Egypt, India and South Africa.  He was a lifelong enthusiast of the theater and movies and worked as an extra in two major films.  In his retirement he enjoyed attending classes at The Academy of Life Long Learning and volunteering at the Book Bag Shop in Saratoga Springs Public Library.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, James K. Kearney and his sister-in-law, Nancy Kearney.  He is survived by his nephews and nieces and their families; Robert E. (Barbara) Kearney, Kathy Hadley (Daryl), Sue (Steve) Enright, Chris (Cindy) Kearney, Ken (Diane) Kearney and his partner, Paul Evans.

Burial will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, KS at a later time. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
