Saratoga Springs, NY - Robert Leo Wincowski, born on January 7th, 1925 in New York City passed away early Wednesday morning, (May 31, 2017), peacefully in his sleep, with family by his side.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Letitia Wincowski; son Joel (his wife Carol) Wincowski: sister Jean (her husband Fred) Eckel; eight grandchildren, Robert, Valerie, Matthew, Ethan, Joel, William, Timothy and Caroline; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his son Robert F. Wincowski, his parents Leon and Elizabeth Wincowski and brother, Richard Wincowski.
Bob graduated from Dolgeville High School, then served his country in World War II as a photographer in the US Army Air Corps, in the Philippines and New Guinea. He later attended both the University of Miami and Utica College. He left college to be a salesman at Union Fern in Saratoga Springs, NY and continued his career with Montgomery Wards as a District Manager, responsible for approximately 40 stores from Maine to New York. He later became the Sales Promotion Manager for Montgomery Wards on the East Coast. Following his retirement at 55, he spent much of his time golfing and with family. Later in life, he went back to work at Saratoga Racetrack and was the oldest track employee at 85 years of age. While he could still walk, he would play 18 holes at the Brookhaven Golf Club and also enjoyed fishing in Cape Vincent, NY.
Bob loved singing at various night clubs and later in life at the Senior Centers and spent many mornings having coffee with friends at the mall. He attended nearly every Lake George basketball game, as his grand-children Ethan and Joel contributed to two state championships.
The last year of his life was spent in Wichita Falls, TX with his wife Lottie and near his grandchild Bob, his wife Sommer and great grandchild, Bob.
Relatives and friends may call from 11am to 12noon Saturday (June 3, 2017) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway 584-5373.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30pm in the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Rev. Thomas H. Chevalier, pastor.
Burial with military honors will be at 12:30pm Monday at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
