SARATOGA SPRINGS Robert Bob Lamphron of Franklin Street in Saratoga Springs, peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Marys Haven after a short hospitalization. Bob was born on May 3rd, 1923, in Staten Island. He was the adopted son of Wilfred and Jessie ( Blair ) Lamphron. As a young man growing up with his family, Bob had the chance to move around the eastern New York area mainly living in the towns of Whitehall, Schenectady and also in the Saratoga Springs area. Saratoga Springs captured his heart. Over the years his daily walks and moonlighting work at the Perrys Taxi enabled him to meet and make many new friends and experience much. Bob honorably served his country in the U.S. Marines and then entered Kilbs Drafting School in Hempstead, Long Island, New York to pursue a career in the drafting field. Upon completion of technical school he spent three years as a mechanic for Pan Am World Airways and then two years at Gibbs & Cox in New York City working in the Hull Piping Division. In 1950, Bob returned to upstate New York and spent twenty years doing industrial layout and design of diesel engines at the American Locomotives Company ( ALCO Products ) in Schenectady. He then retired after working sixteen years in the GE Plant in Schenectady retiring as a senior design draftsman from the Power Plant Systems Engineering & Projects Department Bob enjoyed a lifetime of learning, challenges and friendship. He especially enjoyed model railroading and model plane hobbies Bob had a lifelong passion of flying and was a Captain in the Saratoga Chapter Of the Civil Air Patrol. Bob was preceded in death by his special friend Amy Surprenant of Saratoga Springs. Survivors include his children, Brian ( Judy ) and their two children Paul and Jennifer all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Diane Lamphron of New York City, Garry of Bayshore, NY.; his sister, Carol ( John ) Myers and family of Saratoga Springs; his brother Mel ( Janice ) Lamphron and family of Selkirk, NY; special friend Kim Chorn Pheng and her family of Ballston Spa along with numerous nieces and nephews. Bob had many of the good friends a person could possibly hope for. Thank you all for sharing your life with him! The family extends a special heartfelt thank you to all of Bobs friends at The West Side Stadium Restaurant and Lillians Restaurant in Saratoga Springs. A memorial service, presided over by the Pastor Doug Keisler will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday July 24th at the Alliance Church at 257 Rowland Street in Ballston Spa. The family would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff, nurses, doctors and aides at Saratoga Hospital along with the staff at Dr. Liebers, Dr. Spingarn and the entire support team at Marys Haven for their extra care and kindness during Bobs illness.
