Obituary

South Glens Falls - Robert G. Lockrow, 84, died in the peace of the Lord on Saturday, July, 11, 2015 at the Home of the Good Shepherd in South Glens Falls. Bob was born January 17, 1931, in Albany, New York, to parents Graham P. Lockrow and Dorothy (Flint) Lockrow. He grew up on Eagle Street in Utica, New York. He was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and served in the US Navy at the time of the Korean War. While in the Navy he married his beloved Delores Etienne on April 6, 1952. For eleven years Bob was a towerman for the New York Central Railroad. At the same time he attended Utica College of Syracuse University, earning a B.A. in English in 1958. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service from 1960 to his retirement in 1982, serving in Utica NY, Springfield MA, Nashville TN, San Juan PR, and Washington DC. Bob fell in love with the Lord Jesus Christ while living in Longmeadow MA. He had an affinity for the Episcopal Church, but his spiritual journey included worshipping in Christian churches of various traditions including non-denominational, Episcopal, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Reformed, and United Methodist congregations. He was a vestryman at St. George's Episcopal Church, Falls Church VA, and a ruling elder at the Bay Road Presbyterian Church, Lake George NY. Bob was a committed man of intercessory prayer, praying "without ceasing" for people and needs, far and wide. He was faithful in his study of the Scriptures, always seeking to apply the truths to his own life and the life of the Church. Bob wrote two essays, The Way of Divine Companionship, and The Call to God's Elect, sharing insights borne of prayerful contemplation and informed by St. Paul, "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God." (Colossians 3:3). Bob is survived by his wife of sixty-three years Delores, daughter, Robin Hoffman (Richard), son Raymond Lockrow (Carol), and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. Relatives and friends may call from 11:30am to 12:30pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home and burial with military honors will be at 2pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. Bob's family expresses great appreciation for the care given to Bob by the staffs of the Home of the Good Shepherd and Community Hospice of Saratoga. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or Christian ministry of one's choice.
