Saratoga Springs, NY - Robert E. Lomasney, of Excelsior Springs Ave., passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital, following a brief illness. He was 94. Born on Dec. 27, 1919 in Schenectady, NY, he was the eldest son of the late John R. and Ada (Macintosh) Lomasney. Robert retired from the Schenectady General Electric Company in 1982 following 41 years of service in the turbine division, Building 273. He contributed several patent ideas and was recognized and rewarded for his ingenuity. He was a teacher to many apprentices. For over 70 years, he greatly enjoyed his memberships in both Saratoga Council 246 Third Degree Knights of Columbus and the Saratoga Assembly 745 Fourth Degree. He and his wife never missed a council sponsored dinner dance. They both enjoyed being snowbirds at their residence in the Florida Gulf coast for 31 years. His premier accomplishment included designing and building his family home of 57 years with his wife. He cut lumber for their home at a sawmill he co-owned with his friend, Herbert Loeffler. An avid golfer since his late 40's, he enjoyed golf courses in many states and received several trophies and awards. A well rounded gentleman, he was, among others, an outdoorsman, athlete and artist. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, William, Thomas, John and James; his sisters, Sister Mary Ada of Corondelet and Lois Sherman. Survivors include his loving wife of 74 years, Alfreida (Towner) Lomasney; his only daughter, Carol Richmond; his grandchildren, Thomas, Kimberly, Geoffrey and Justin Richmond; his great-grandchildren, Madeline, Marina, Sarah and Olivia; his lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Robert O'Leary, Sr. and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 3pm Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway 584-5373. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Members of the Saratoga Knights of Columbus will meet at 2pm Sunday at the funeral home for services.
