Saratoga Springs Robert C. Meeker died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Wesley Health Care Center. He was 88. Born June 7, 1920 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Irving H. and Emma M. Young Meeker. He attended local schools and graduated from Saratoga High School and the GE apprentice course as a tool maker. Robert was a veteran of World War II serving as a bombardier in the Army Air Corp. He flew 45 combat missions and received the Purple Heart, Silver Star and the Air Medal. He and his family resided in Wappinger Falls for 28 years, working at IBM in East Fishkill. Robert and his wife returned to live in Saratoga Springs in 1992. He was a communicant of Bethesda Episcopal Church. Robert was a member of the Bombardiar Inc., the Air Force Association and the 460th Bomb Group. Survivors include his wife Mildred Hoyle Meeker of Saratoga Springs; his son Robert G. (Susan) Meeker of Durham, NC; his daughter, Pamela Meeker Cross (companion Myron) of Schuylerville; five granddaughters, Cynthia (Marc) MacLachlan, Kristi (Paul) Fitzgerald, Alina and Katrina Piccone, Emma Leigh Meeker; five great grandchildren, Trevor and Avery Fitzgerald, William, John Henry and Ella Rose MacLachlan. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373) with a funeral service to follow at 7:00. Burial with military honors will be at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville at 11am Monday, Aug. 25, 2008.
