Saratoga Springs, NY- Robert L. Pitman, 67, Oak St., died Saturday, May 16, 2026 after a short illness.
Born on Sept. 9, 1958 in Saratoga Springs, he was a son of the late William E. and Rita M. (Conway) Pitman and was a lifelong resident. He and his late family remained as one of the earliest Irish families remaining that settled and lived in the original residence since the 1860s.
Bob attended Division Street Elementary School, graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 1976 and from Hudson Valley Community College. He served in the United States Air Force, and was honorably discharged in 1982.
Employed for many years as a data entry tech for Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Albany, he later working for Global Foundries in Malta and Quad Graphics. A communicant of the Church of St. Peter, he served as an usher at 9am Sunday liturgy for many years. A Third Degree member of Saratoga Council 246 for 38 years and the Saratoga Assembly 745 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
Bob remained a NY Yankees baseball and NY Giants football fan. His interest included music, playing the guitar and always was partial to any Beatles song by the Fab Four or as they performed as individual artists.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William E. Pitman, who died in 2016 and a sister, Leona E. Pitman, who died in 2019.
He is survived by several cousins, including John (Marie) Conway, Jerry (Dale) Conway, Kevin and David, as well as the McNamara and Conway families in Ireland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12noon Thursday, May 28, 2026 in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave.
The Knights of Columbus are requested to attend Bob’s Mass and may be seated together adjacent to the altar, escorted by the Assembly’s Color Corps.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Church of St. Peter (specify Stained Glass Windows Restoration), in care of the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway.
