Huletts Landing - Robert Dewitt Quick, 98, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 20th after a brief illness. Robert was born in Rahway, NJ on May 1, 1926 and grew up in Kerhonkson, New York. He served in the Merchant Marine in World War II in the North Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean war zones.
Robert retired from the NYS Police as First Deputy Superintendent after 35 years of service in 1983. He began his career in 1948 in Sidney, NY. There, he met and married his wife Jennie in 1953, settling their family in Port Ewen, NY. During his career with the NYSP, he was a commander of NYS Thruway Troop T and head of the State Police training program. He was selected to attend the FBI National Academy and was awarded the John Edgar Hoover Medal for Excellence in the study of Law Enforcement.
After a series of promotions, Robert was relocated to Division Headquarters in Albany NY.
In his retirement years, he loved spending time with family and friends in Huletts Landing, Lake George where he volunteered at the community golf course for many years. Robert was a proud member of the HLVFD. He was a devout parishioner of the Chapel of the Assumption in Huletts Landing.
He was a proud trooper, a witty and kind friend, and a cherished husband, father and Papa.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jennie (Turner) Quick; three daughters, Jana Quick, Gail DiStefano and Teri Quick; two grandchildren, Casey (John) Bradley and Christopher Bates; two nieces, Joyce Montague and Jill Mode; 2 great grandchildren, Rex and Kai Bradley; many nephews, nieces and friends.
He was predeceased by his mother, Della (Errico) Quick and father, Dewitt Barley Quick; daughter, Robin Dunning; two brothers, William (Lee) Quick and Bruce Quick and many cherished friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4:00pm – 7:00pm on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at William J. Burke & Sons / Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N Broadway Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, July 26, 2024 at the Chapel of the Assumption, 2026 Lands End Road, Huletts Landing, NY 12841. A burial at Mountain Grove Memorial Church Cemetery will immediately follow the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Robert to the Huletts Landing, NY Volunteer Fire Department, 905 Co Rd 6, Huletts Landing, NY 12841.
