Halfmoon

Obituary

Halfmoon, NY – It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Robert (Bob) John Urban, 59, of Halfmoon, NY. Bob passed away peacefully at home on Monday June 29, 2026 with his loving wife, Holly, by his side, following a miraculous six-and-a-half-year battle with Glioblastoma.

Bob was born on November 30, 1966, in Teaneck, New Jersey to the late William Urban and Carol (Kennedy) Solas. He spent most of his childhood in St. Petersburg, Florida before moving to Saratoga Springs, New York in 1981.

After graduating from Saratoga Springs High School in 1985, Bob proudly answered the call to serve his country, honorably serving in the United States Marine Corps for six years, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Throughout his military career, he served as both a Rifleman and Marine Corps Recruiter, exemplifying the Corps’ values of honor, courage, and commitment while mentoring and inspiring future generations of Marines. His exceptional service was recognized through numerous military honors, including the Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, as well as Rifle Expert and Pistol Marksmanship Badges. The discipline, integrity, and selfless devotion to duty that defined his military service remained evident throughout his life. He carried the pride of being a United States Marine with him every day, and his unwavering commitment to service, leadership, and country will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy as a Marine and as a man of honor will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow Marines.

Following his time in the Marines, Bob earned a BS in Accounting from the University at Albany and began his career in public accounting. He worked tirelessly and with the vigorous commitment to obtain his credentials as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), while working his way up through Principal. In 2016, Bob was promoted to Partner with The Bonadio Group. He loved serving his clients and promoting The Bonadio brand which he believed in wholeheartedly. He was invited into an elite group of “Rainmakers” with some of his fellow Partners and was selected to relocate to New York City to grow that region’s practice, which he did until his diagnosis in 2019.

In his spare time, Bob enjoyed golfing, baseball, and his backyard oasis. A true Saratogian, Bob frequented the Saratoga Race Course and was part-owner of several Thoroughbreds over the years. Bob’s favorite pastime was having his house filled with his wife, daughters and other family and friends, participating in his outrageous antics. He was so proud of the loving, open and fun environment he created.

He is survived by his wife, Holly (Sawyer) Urban, his children Catherine, Meghan, Lillian and Emma Urban, his brother Steven (Michele) Urban, Father- and Mother-in-Law, Frederick and Sun Cha Sawyer, Brother-in-Law Thomas Sawyer and Sister-in-Law Dawn (Steven) Miller, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Carol (George) Solas, his father William (Morphia) Urban, and his brother William (Billy) Urban Jr.
