Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Roger Alfred Lampron, 87, earned his well-deserved eternal rest on October 31, 2024, after a brief illness. Born at home in Bennington, Vermont on August 24, 1937, Roger was the youngest of nine children of Alfred Eugene and Mary Louise Lampron. He spent his youth in Bennington being an altar server at Sacred Heart Church, a bass drummer in his high school marching band, and one of his fondest memories, racing in the local Soap Box Derby Races. Norman Rockwell chose one of Roger's race cars to immortalize in the illustration "Last Minute Changes."

Losing both parents young had an effect on Roger and he was raised by his sister Leona until he graduated Bennington High in 1954. He then entered the Air Force, serving in Florida, Colorado, and the place that generated most of his best tales-Thule, Greenland.

After the service, he returned to Bennington. On a group date with a friend, he met a beautiful young lady who could skate as well as he did. He married Patricia Moss on November 28, 1959, and they continued to skate like ballroom dancers for many years to come.

Roger would learn the trade of printing and work the rest of his career as a printer. Moving from Bennington to Cohoes, they finally settled in Saratoga Springs. Sometimes working two jobs, Roger supported Pat and their four children Donna, Gail, Mark, and Linda.

He also made time to be a Little League coach, an assistant Boy Scout Leader, and to bring Soap Box Derby to Saratoga. Building and racing cars were some of Roger's and his kid's fondest memories.

Roger retired from the State of New York in 1999. His retirement years were filled with service to the Knights of Columbus Council 246 as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, and longtime Color Corps Commander. He filled many roles at his beloved Church of Saint Peter and enjoyed working the Carousel at Congress Park for a few summers. His greatest joys were traveling and cruising with Pat and watching his eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren grow. Their retirement afforded both he and Pat the opportunity to help care for their youngest grandchildren, and they could be found at various plays, concerts, and games. Later in his life he would enjoy the Racino with Pat, lunch at Dozier's with Donna, Valley Cats games with Gail and her husband, golf and "refreshments" with Mark, and sushi and haircuts from his "barber" Linda. He will be remembered and missed for his love of the Red Sox, his terrible sense of direction, listening to his favorite music on Pandora, and the whispered "I love you" in our ears. His absence will be filled with countless stories of his life well lived.

In addition to his parents, Roger is predeceased by his siblings Paul, Armand, Ernest, Raymond, Leona, Jeannette, Marguerite, and Louise. We hope they are having a beautiful family reunion!

Left to treasure his memory and celebrate his life are his beloved wife Patricia; his children Donna (Bill) Lagoe, Gail (Gary) Jordan, Mark (Eva) Lampron and Linda (Ted) Shufelt; his grandchildren Billy, David, Kristin, Jessica, Ashley, Dalton, Grant, and Emily; step-grandchildren Kyle and Samantha; and great grandchildren Griffin, Rylan and August.
