Gansevoort, NY - Ronald Carl Carmer, 75, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 with his loving wife and family by his side. Ron was born July 3, 1935 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Millard and Vera (Casselbury) Carmer. He was a 1954 graduate of Athens (PA) High School and attended Alfred University. Ron also received training as a structural steel draftsman at American Bridge Company in Elmira, NY. He married his high school sweetheart Nancy Haight in 1955. In 1973, Ron founded Stone Bridge Iron and Steel in Gansevoort, NY and worked there until his retirement in January 2011. He was an active member of the Bacon Hill Reformed Church. Ron is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Haight Carmer; his daughter Becky (Patrick) Diggin; his sons Brian (Lori) Carmer and Britt (Frieda) Carmer; his grandchildren Tara, BJ, Jessica, Jon, Kelsey, Taylor, Maclaine, Britt and Addison; and his great-grandchildren Jeremiah, Paige and Dallin. He is also survived by his dear friends Leon and Carole Steves. Rons family was the joy of his life. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8pm Monday, March 21, 2011 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Bacon Hill Reformed Church. Burial will be in the spring at the Bacon Hill Cemetery.
