IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosemary Burke
Flanagan
November 14, 1935 – February 15, 2017
Gansevoort, NY – Rosemary Burke Flanagan passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wed., Feb. 15, 2017.
She was born on Nov. 14, 1935 in Saratoga Springs, NY to the late Alice Hammond Dake and George Burke. Rosemary was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and at the age of 19, she married Joseph Flanagan. Their 44 years of marriage never consisted of a dull moment and often had Joe referring to himself as "Good Saint Joseph" which Rosemary learned to let slide. They resided in Rhode Island and Connecticut where they began their family before settling back in Greenfield, NY where they raised their six daughters.
Rosemary was very devoted to her family. She loved and cherished each of her daughters deeply and though never confirmed, her favorite was the one that started with a 'K'.
Rosemary worked many years for NYS, providing care of the developmentally disabled. Her caring nature spilled over into her everyday life as well, where she always put others' needs before her own. In fact, if you looked up the word selfless in the dictionary, surely there would be a picture of Rosemary.
Aside from spending time with her family and her favorite pet companion, Gizzy, she thoroughly enjoyed crosswords, Sudoku and doing puzzles. She had a love for hummingbirds, roosters and cardinals almost as much as her love for John Wayne and Elvis. She was famous in her family for her lemon delight dessert, which was a hit at all family gatherings.
Known to those in her family as 'Pinky', Rosemary left many warm memories and will be deeply missed. Her kind, gentle, soul touched many and we are proud to call her a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
In addition to her parents, Rosemary is predeceased by her step-father, Percy W. Dake, husband Joseph Flanagan, daughter Karen Remillard, brother Timothy Burke and sister Marjorie Baldwin.
Rosemary's memory lives on in her daughters; Kathleen (Skip) Kardash, Karol (James) Murphy, Kelley (Tony) Santiago, Kim (Tony) Barrett and Keilah (Darren) Bunyan. Survivors also include her brothers Robert (the late Rosalie) Burke, James (Nancy) Burke, George (Eleanor) Burke; her sister, Carol Alden and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Burke; her 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Rosemary's love will carry on through those who were blessed enough to know her. The stars will most definitely shine a little brighter now that she is among them.
Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 5pm Monday (Feb. 20, 2017) at the William J.
