Rotterdam, NY - Ruth Leahy-Eaker of Rotterdam, NY and formerly of Barefoot Bay, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was 82. Born on November 13, 1930 in Rotterdam, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Viola Kenyon Leahy. Ruth was an executive secretary at the General Electric Company in Schenectady for 25 years, retiring in 1995. She had a passion for fashion and practiced what she preached, "Pretty is as pretty does", and she was certainly pretty! Ruth looked forward to spending the long winters in Florida with her husband Charlie. She enjoyed square dancing, painting and loved to shop! Ruth is a published poet and was very proud of her Irish heritage, having the opportunity to visit Ireland and kiss the Blarney Stone. In addition to her parents, Ruth is predeceased by her sister Geraldine DeLong of St. Petersburg, FL. Survivors include her husband Clifford "Charlie" Eaker, Sr., three daughters, Santa Benton and her husband Gregory of Gansevoort, NY, Shelley Hodgson and her husband Keith of Irving, TX, Sharon Licata and her husband Tony of Ballston Spa; one brother, Richard Leahy of Pennsylvania; one sister, Catherine Taft of Clifton Park; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30am, Friday, February 1, 2013 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Friday at St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue, Saratoga Springs.
