Malta, NY - Surrounded by her loving family, Sandy Poitras passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023, at the age of 80, after a brief illness.

She was born on January 8, 1943 to the late William G. and Dorothy C. Bloodgood of Vischer Ferry. She was a proud graduate of Shenendehowa High School. After graduation, she went on to work for

Ter Bush and Powell in Schenectady and later for McAvoy & Williams Insurance Agency in Saratoga Springs (later becoming Sutton & Tarantino) until her retirement. Her greatest passions in life were her beloved family, her cat Benji, spending time with her "coffee club" friends and watching Hallmark movies.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Joseph H. Poitras Jr. and her brothers, Barry W. Bloodgood and Patrick M. Bloodgood.

She leaves behind twin daughters, Dawn Hotaling, and husband Paul of Halfmoon and Debra Johnson, and husband Paul of Malta; her granddaughters, Kristen Dowen, and husband Derek of Halfmoon, Danielle Hotaling of Halfmoon, and Alaina Johnson, and girlfriend Alina McCarthy of Halfmoon; her great-granddaughter Elara Dowen of Halfmoon; her sister-in-law (and dearest friend) Audrey Poitras, as well as her dear friends Charlotte and David Johnson.

Honoring Sandy's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Ave. Ballston Spa, NY 12020 with burial following in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY.  Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Sandy's family would like to thank Karen and the staff of the Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta for their compassion, kindness and genuine love they showered on Sandy during her time with them, her partner in crime and bestie Daphene, Kate at Community Hospice of Saratoga and special thanks to Audrey Poitras and Charlotte Johnson for their unwavering love and friendship.
