IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sarah R.
Braveman
July 28, 1918 – September 27, 2017
Saratoga Springs, NY – Sarah Braveman, longtime resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017.
Born on July 27, 1918 in Boston, MA, Sarah became an actress and pursued a career in New York City. She moved to Saratoga Springs, in 1965 to become part of the New World Theater, then based at Cafe Lena. She began setting down roots which would grow and strengthen over the nearly 50 years she lived in the town. Sarah worked at Empire State College until her retirement and she was often seen in leading roles on the stage of Saratoga's Home Made Theatre.
We believe Sarah's "secret" to her long life was having close, engaging friends from every generation and her voracious appetite for knowledge. Reading was like breathing for Sarah and there was always a pile of book, newspapers and magazines surrounding her. Sarah studied and then taught Yoga and meditation which connected her to even more people. Sarah was a truly great listener and she was judicious and wise in giving her advice. We're sure that every single one of her friends have been told by her at some point to "keep marching" which was her shorthand for pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again; to keep hoping; to keep striving; to not give up on yourself. Sarah encouraged everyone she knew and was always happy to give her time and care to others. She impacted so many lives and continued to do so right up to her death. We have heard stories from people she knew only briefly and how she affected them in such a positive way. Sarah was a "laugher" and loved to laugh at the absurdities of life. She never lost her interest in what was happening globally and felt enormous compassion for and outrage at the inequities in the world. She will truly be missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her two daughters, Beth and Jo Ellen; two granddaughters, Kelly and Erin; great granddaughter, Billie and of course, by her legion of wonderful, supportive, loving friends and family.
At the family's request there will be no services.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke and Sons/ Bussing and Cunniff, Inc. Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
