Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, Sarah Jane Fisher passed away at the age of 72. She was born on May 3, 1948 in Huntington, Indiana, to the late Gerhardt and Lucile Hoppe. She grew up in a loving Lutheran family who instilled values that guided her throughout her life.

After high school, she attended the Indiana University Division of General & Technical Studies in Fort Wayne where she earned an Associate Degree in Marketing and met her husband, Louis Fisher. They celebrated their 51st anniversary on August 23rd. They raised two children, Emily Hare of Beacon, NY, and Peter Fisher of Troy, NY. During their marriage they lived all over the world, including in Madison, WI; Fort Wayne and Wolcottville, IN; Frankfurt, Germany; Tokyo, Japan; and Zurich, Switzerland. They retired in Saratoga Springs, NY.

We have learned what Sarah probably always knew: It's all about relationships. Every other aspect of life pales in comparison. Sarah had a passion for people and worked with the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Saratoga Visitor's Center. She actively supported Lutheran World Relief. When someone needed help or needed a volunteer, Sarah was the person they could count on. She loved music and played the piano and her flute at many church services. Even during her final days in the hospital, when she needed prayers, she prayed for the people on her prayer list. Her grandchildren, Eleanor and Henry, held a special place in her heart. For her husband, Louis; her children, Emily (Nathaniel) Hare and Peter Fisher (Jessica Zeccardi); her sister, Mary Ellen Fuller; and her grandchildren, Eleanor and Henry Hare, God gave them the privilege of being together in the same place at the same time. How good was that!

Sarah took the fast train to heaven and there's absolutely nothing we could offer that would bring her back. She's got it all now. Everything good…but without the woes of the world. No pain. No grief. No regrets. She's now meeting the loved ones who passed before her. Quite a reunion. And she's face-to-face with Jesus, the saints, and the heavenly host. Home for Christmas. Always thinking of her family, in her last note, she wrote: "Take care of each other, be kind, and enjoy life every day."

Her life will be celebrated by her family forever and we will stop for a moment sometime next summer for a Memorial Service for Sarah.
