Phillipsport, NY - Saul Hershenhart died peacefully in his home on Thursday, December 15, 2011. The son of James and Fannie (Rudinsky) Hershenhart, Saul was born in Laurelton, NY on October 4, 1924. Graduating from City College of New York at age 18, he was a decorated veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Following his service, he returned to City College for his advanced degrees. With a keen mind for numbers and the ability to do the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle quickly in ink, Saul will be remembered for his great intellect, wonderful stories, analytical mind and compassion for others. He worked as an engineer for the US Army Corp of Engineers, the US Navy at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the US General Services Administration and a private engineering consulting firm in Eastern Long Island. Saul was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Edith, and is survived by his sisters Rose Noble and Stella Orlofsky; daughters, Elise Hershenhart (Steve Emerman); Lori Hershenhart (Christine Wegryzn) and Beth Hershenhart (Amanda Hiller); grandchildren, Christopher and Erica; and a loving extended family. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville, N.Y. Friends and family are welcome to gather on Monday following burial services at the home of Beth Hershenhart, 11 Round Table Road, Saratoga Springs.
