Troy—It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected and accidental passing of Sean Norton Roohan, 39, on August 22, 2026. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, friendships, and love that will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
Born on January 22, 1987, in Houston, TX, Sean was the son of Robin and Leo W. Roohan. He grew up in East Greenbush and Schodack. Sean was a graduate of LaSalle Institute and attended Hudson Valley Community College and UAlbany. As a creative entrepreneur, he was involved in several ventures that connected him with a variety of businesses throughout the US. He was also a trained Peer Specialist who used his training to help himself, his friends, and family navigate everyday struggles.
His real passion was music. A self-taught keyboardist, he wrote music covering multiple genres. Sean frequently collaborated with other musicians through technology, which opened him up to new avenues and different musical styles. His music will live on as a constant reminder of his many talents.
Sean’s unexpected passing has left a tremendous void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. While his time with us was far too short, the positive spirit he shared will live on forever. What we would give for just one more hug.
He is survived by his parents; his sister, Wendi (Matthew) Spence; and his brother, Charles (Shubhreet) Roohan. Also surviving Sean is his grandmother, Kathleen Blackburn, as well as his uncle, aunts, many cousins, and close friends, including Nick, Steve, and Joe. Sean was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Jeanne Anne and Leo Roohan; maternal grandfather, Grant Tankersley; and beloved aunt, Mary Anne "Mimi" Roohan.
A Mass to celebrate Sean’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 163 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer, NY. A reception will follow in the church auditorium. The family will be available prior to Mass to greet those attending.
Those wishing to remember Sean in a special way may make a donation in his honor to Rehabilitation Support Services, 5172 Western Turnpike, Altamont, NY 12009.
