Saratoga Springs, NY - Seymour (Sy) Saslow, 88, died on Monday, December 14, 2009 at Saratoga Hospital with his family and friends by his side. Born March 7, 1921 to Philip and Mary Saslow, he was raised in New York City, graduated CCNY, and worked all of his life as an inventor and engineer. He married Marjorie Kraft in 1944 and they moved the family to Saratoga Springs in 1953. A holder of multiple patents, his work as Chief Engineer at Espey Manufacturing and Electronics included items designed and developed for the lunar landing program, military radar and antenna systems, medical technologies and other radio and radar engineering devices. Upon retirement, and until his passing, he was an active member of the Espey Manufacturing and Electronics Board of Trustees. Founder and president of the Saratoga Springs Orthodox Jewish Synagogue, he was a strong supporter of Israel and the Saratoga Springs Jewish Community at large. He was a dedicated member and past president of the Saratoga Springs Kiwanis club, and a life member of the IEEE, ARRL and CCNY Alumni society. He was also past president and active member of Chaverim International, the Jewish Amateur Radio organization. He enjoyed his routine with his friends at the YMCA, his early morning get-togethers on the net with his fellow HAM radio operators, his daily phone calls to his children and grandchildren around the world, and an occasional game of chess with his grandson. Most of all, he enjoyed fishing out of his Amphicar on Saratoga Lake. He is predeceased by his brothers Max and George Saslow, his son Arthur Lawrence Saslow, his grandson Raphael Saslow and his wife Marjorie Kraft Saslow. Surviving relatives include his sister, Ruth Kroll, his children Roy Saslow, Anne Morris, Yona Yakobovitz and Phylise Banner, twenty grandchildren, and sixty-four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373), followed by burial at the Jewish Cemetery on Weibel Ave. The family will be sitting shiva at 199 Caroline Street through Tuesday morning, Dec 22, with daily services at 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (except on Friday night).
