Obituary

The world has lost another heartbeat. Shawn (Stanton) Reed 67, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Saratoga Hospital with his loving family by his side. Shawn was born August 25, 1955 in Hartford, Connecticut to the late Vivian Stanton Reed and William Bastedo Reed.

Shawn graduated in 1973 from Catholic High School Troy, NY. He continued his education at Hudson Valley Community College and received a BA in Industrial Arts from Oswego State. He earned a Master's Degree in Education from Plattsburgh State.

Hard working was synonymous with this man who sometimes worked three jobs at once. His work experience began as an Industrial Arts (Shop) teacher at the Saratoga Springs Junior High where he met his wife of 36 years Roberta (Jablonski) Reed. His passion and talent for building continued when he founded in the 1980's Deer Construction with his brother.  Shawn returned to the classroom and worked at WSWHE BOCES as a Building Trades Instructor. His final teaching career was as a Technology Teacher at Ballston Spa High School. The students, the smell of wood and talented people surrounded his career experiences. One cannot deny that Shawn loved people and they loved him. As a social chemist he worked in several Saratoga restaurants from Siro's to Sperry's. He enjoyed serving people from all walks of life without judgement and delighted in sharing their experiences. His quick wit and humor was a personal trademark.

Love for family was evident every day of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Bobbie), daughter Meredith Lauren Reed (NYC), his brother Mark Valenti (Nikki) of Las Vegas, Nevada and many nieces, nephews, and friends that were like family.

Shawn was preceded in death by his brother Michael S. Reed (Nora), sister Pamela Waring (Michael) step-mother and friend Mary (Fitzpatrick) Reed and brother Ralph Valenti.

There will be a celebration of Shawn's life at a future date.

For all those broken hearts out there feeling his loss, the words below may give you some solace:

Golden Heart

God saw you were getting tired

And a cure was not to be,

So he put his arms around you,

And whispered, "Come to Me".

With tearful eyes we watched you,

And we saw you pass away.

Although we loved you dearly,

We could not let you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,

Hard working hands at rest.

God broke our heart to prove to us

He only takes the best.
