IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sheila
Brooks
February 13, 1955 – October 11, 2020
Saratoga Springs - Sheila Brooks passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Wesley Health Care Center. She was 65.
Born on February 13, 1955 in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter to Warren Brooks and the late Isabell Mabb Brooks. She was a lifelong resident of the City of Saratoga Springs. A City that she dearly loved.
Her tenure with the City is legendary. She began her work with the City and its community as a Clerk Typist in Accounts-Assessment Department from 8/22/1977-8/22/1978. She then worked as a Part-Time Temporary Typist in Accounts Dept. from 10/1/1978-1/3/1979. She came back again to work at the City as Part-Time Clerk on 2/27/1979 in the Department of Public Works. From 3/5/1979-5/21/1979 she was a Part-Time Clerk in the Accounts Department.
On 01/01/1980 she became a Full-Time Assistant City Clerk in the Accounts Department and remained in that position until she retired on 11/27/2010. Sheila came back after retirement to work on a Part-Time Temporary basis from 10/23/2012-01/01/2013 as a Part-Time Clerk in the Accounts Department. Folks visiting her in City Hall will remember her close relationship with her side kick Gloria Battaglini in the City Clerk's Office. Never did a day passed that not contain good natured fun and laughter.
Sheila was a beloved fixture in City Hall. She had a gregarious smile and began each and every day as a new day in her service to the community. Her smile went from ear to ear as she issued permits, licenses to the community and interacted with multiple generations of City employees. Each and every work day she spent in City Hall she would eat lunch at her favorite restaurant – Compton's. It was her special time with the companionship of Compton's staff, their delicious food and her book of the day.
Sheila loved Bingo! She interacted with folks from all over the country as she played online and became a well-known master at the art of Bingo and its moves. One might say she was a pioneer in social media as she interacted with folks from all walks of life as she taught them the game and won. She also loved her parakeets that she let fly around her home as they kept her company.
Sheila took care of her father throughout her life supporting him in his retirement. She was a loving and caring care giver. She was also a loving and caring friend to all.
It is with great sadness that we share her passing. We wish her God speed for a full life shared with family, friends and her community.
In addition to her father Warren, Sheila is survived by her brothers Earl, Mark, Terry and Butch Knowlton.
