Obituary

Wilton, NY - Sheila Ann (Tethers) Clarke went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday March 25, 2026 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, NY. Born on October 6, 1940, she was the third of five children born to James Tethers Sr. and Agnes (O’Malley) Tethers. Sheila graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 1959 and followed her mother’s footsteps enrolling and completing a three-year nursing program at Albany Memorial Hospital. She passed the New York State Board Examination, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1962. Sheila married her husband, Albert J. Clarke II on December 29, 1962 and in May of 1969 they bought what was locally known as the “Old Doc Lincoln House” in Wilton, NY where they settled into what would be their forever home. Sheila continued working in several area hospitals before finally retiring from her nursing career from the Glens Falls Hospital.

Known as Nana to her family, Sheila was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a devoted daughter and sister, a dedicated colleague and a dear friend. After raising her children and retiring from her nursing career, she enjoyed travelling and spoiling her grandchildren. Generous beyond measure, she lived her entire life helping and caring for others. Whether it be for her family, friends, or even neighbors Sheila brought peace, calm and healing when it was needed the most.

Sheila is predeceased by her parents James and Agnes Tethers, and three siblings James Tethers, Thomas Tethers, and Joan (Tethers) Gindhart. She is survived by her husband, Albert J. Clarke II, and by her three children Albert J. Clarke III (wife Brenda), Mary Ann Laquidara (husband Frank), and James W. Clarke (wife Judy). She was the very proud grandmother to seven grandchildren including Rachael Pereyra (husband David), Kimberly Spica, Suzanne Clarke, Ryan Clarke, Peter Laquidara, Beth Ann Laquidara (fiancé Justin Cullam), and Lyndsay Clarke as well as two great- grandchildren Luciano and Gabriela Pereyra. She is also survived by her youngest brother Michael Tethers and his wife Nina as well as her brother-in-law Stephan Clarke and his wife Mary, and several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home located at 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY. She will be laid to her final rest in the Gurn Springs Cemetery in Wilton NY.
