Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY-Shirley A. Rose passed away on May 8th, 2024 at Wesley Community after a long illness.

Shirley was born on May 2, 1946 in Corinth NY, to Lewis and Beverly Ovitt. She attended Corinth School and Saratoga Springs School, where she graduated. She married William C Rose, the love of her life in Saratoga Springs NY.

Shirley was an ambitious individual who succeeded at everything she did. She was employed at Saratoga Hospital as a CNA, then private duty nursing and eventually worked at Wesley Community Nursing Home as a CNA until her retirement in 1998. Shirley was treasurer and costume designer/tailor for the Green Sabres Drum Corps from Schuylerville, NY in the 1970's. Most of her children were in the corps as well. Her husband Bill also volunteered to work with the corps. Shirley loved to bake and do crafts. Every holiday she would make sure everyone got a tray of homemade cookies. She loved holidays, picnics and anything family related

Shirley is predeceased by her husband Bill after 35 years of marriage. Also two daughters, Irene Dejnozka and Tina Gratto passed before her. In addition, she was predeceased by five siblings, Gary Ovitt, Clayton Ovitt, Bradley Ovitt, Donna Mayette and Maureen Mason.

Shirley is survived by her children, William Rose (Sally) of Day, Melody Dingmon of Wilton, Michelle Hassett (Tom) of Wilton and Melinda Allen (Lehman) of Day. A brother, Lewis Ovitt (Susan) of Hudson Falls. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 11am-1pm on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 with a funeral home service to be held at 1pm at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.  Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery. West. Ave.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the Wesley Community for the excellent care and compassion shown to Shirley during her stay there. Also a special thank you to the staff on 2 Springs and all the people from Hospice who took very good care of Shirley during her passing.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Shirley's name.
