Clifton Park - Sonia Schwartz passed away at the age of 86 on January 28, 2017, at the Schuyler Ridge Residential Facility in Clifton Park, New York, after a month long illness. A classical and jazz pianist originally from Cuba and trained at the National Conservatory in Havana, she had been a Spanish teacher in Lawrence  High School, Cedarhurst, NY for 30 years until her retirement.

After retirement, she worked in Spanish voice overs, then as an actress, and ultimately became a prolific Spanish playwright, having nine of her plays produced. She also made use of her musical skills as a member of Showstoppers, playing for various institutions.

Sonia's energy, vivaciousness and good humor will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 1 pm. A shiva service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7 pm at the Society of Jewish Science, 109 East 39th Street, New York, NY.
