IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Spencer P.
Hellwig Iv
April 4, 1995 – June 28, 2018
Santa Ana, CA - Spencer P. Hellwig IV, age 23 died on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at his home. From his birth in Saratoga Springs on April 4, 1995 to his death on Thursday he captivated everyone in his life with his amazing smile, kindness, and quick wit. He never judged or placed a label on anyone which is why everyone who knew him loved him and loved spending time with him.
He was born at Saratoga Hospital to Spencer and Deborah (Moran) Hellwig and was the older
of two children. He attended classes in the Saratoga Springs School District until his graduation from Saratoga High School in 2013. He attended Adirondack Community College until moving to California in 2016 where he worked and continued his education at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California.
More than anything he truly cherished spending time with his family. Barbecues at Marilyn's pool, holiday gatherings at Nana's, fishing and hunting with Papa and Uncle Dennis, trips to Florida to visit Grandpa Tom, travelling abroad with his Uncle Marty and Aunt Jill, and hanging out with Aunt Joy at Galway Lake. These gatherings often included his sister Paige, and cousins Tori, Lexi, Danny, little Denny, and Griffin. Aunt Mary and Aunt Colleen were two of his favorite targets when it came to humor mostly because he saw them as equals not elders.
After moving out west he maintained a ritual of calling his grandparents every week without fail to check in on them and share his stories of making new friends and relishing days at the beaches in Laguna, Newport, and Huntington. Special thanks to Geof and Sue Fairchild old family friends who lived close enough to Spencer in California to serve as surrogate parents when he needed them to help out no matter what the request was. Jordan Canino and his parents also provided a home away from home as well.
He also maintained a strong connection with his friends from home many of whom he played lacrosse, traveled, and went skiing with while growing up in Saratoga Springs. Some of them also ventured west and together they enjoyed the Saratoga clique that he often said made life so far from home much easier for all them while working and going to school.
Sincere gratitude to everyone who reached out from the minute they heard the news and were there to provide comfort to all those who were struggling with this loss.
Left to honor and remember Spencer as the beautiful soul he was are his father and mother Spencer and Deborah (Moran) Hellwig; his sister Paige; his paternal grandparents Spencer P. Jr. and Marcia A. Hellwig; his maternal grandfather Thomas L. Moran and his wife Lee; his maternal grandmother Marilyn Moran; uncles Martin B. Hellwig and his wife Jill, Dennis M. Hellwig and his wife Joy, Karl Sleight and his Aunt Colleen Sleight and Justin Donohoe; his aunt Mary Beth Moran; cousins, Victoria, Alexandra and Dennis Hellwig Jr., Daniel Sleight and Griffin Donohoe.
