Stephen Louis Morett

Wilton, NY- On Thursday, May 7, 2026, Stephen Louis Morett, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Stephen was born on June 20, 1952, in Ticonderoga, New York, the oldest of five children of Louis and Geraldine Morett. He was known for his sense of humor, his love of food, design and calligraphy, as well as the effortless joy he brought to everyone around him.

Steve proudly served in the US Air Force as a Security Police Officer from 1972 – 1976 attaining the rank of Sargent. While at his last base in Germany he was honorably discharged and spent a year traveling to many countries before returning to the US. Upon return to the US, he used G.I. Bill to attend college where he nurtured his interest in history, art, culture, design as well as feeding his creativity and love of learning.

Post-graduation Steve relocated to Richmond, VA to pursue a career in Visual Merchandising. On August 10, 1985, he married Janet Malpass at Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia. Raising two children, eventually moving back to upstate NY and retiring from JCPenney after 25 years.

A true foodie at heart, Steve found joy in sharing meals, discovering new flavors, and gathering loved ones around the table. He especially loved donuts and coffee, simple pleasures that brought him comfort and happiness. He also adored his beloved dogs — Freckles, Babe, and Olive — who brought him companionship, comfort, and endless joy throughout the years.

He is remembered lovingly by his wife Janet; his daughter Arvilla Morett & her husband Kyle Fordrung, his son Calvin Morett & his wife Ankita Bhasin; his grandchildren Avoreen & Gowan Fordrung; his siblings and their spouses, Marilyn & Tom Towne, Louann & Don Jaquish, Eva & Brian Lovegrove and Dennis & Valerie Morett, and sister-in-law Cindy & brother-in-law Dave Jimenez, and the cousins he shared a birthday with Annie Morette and Kathy Schubin, along with many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was especially fond of and spent time with his cousins Loris Clark and Linda Smith.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses, Respiratory Department, Palliative and Hospice Care at Saratoga Hospital for their compassion, care and support. Thank you to Albany Medical Center and Albany Stratton VA Medical Center.
