Obituary

Saratoga Springs NY - Stuart V. Lewis, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 after a long illness. Stuart was born on Dec. 30, 1921 in Waterville NY, the 9th of 10 children of the late Hugh and Elena ONeill Lewis. He was a graduate of Waterville Central School, class of 1941. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps in England. He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn M. King, in 1945 and lived in Waterville until his retirement from government service at Griffis Air Base. From 1984 until 2004, he lived in Venice and Nokomis FL. In 2004, he moved to Prestwick Chase in Saratoga Springs. In addition to his parents, Stuart was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn K. Lewis in 1988; four sisters, Irene Lewis, Margaret Pugh, Nora March and Elizabeth Rogers; four brothers, John, Hubert, Norman, and Edward Lewis, and his loving companion Lottie Souza. Survivors include his brother Raymond (Doris) Lewis of Leesburg FL; two sisters-in-law, Edith Mistler of Pilot Hill, CA and Marjorie Carmichael of Madison; his five children, Patricia (Robert) Hamm of Saratoga Springs, Kathleen (Jerry) Russell of Paradise Valley AZ, Timothy Lewis of St. Johnsville, Michael (Susan) Lewis of Newark Valley, and Richard (Irmgard) Lewis of Waverly; seven grandchildren, Karen (Kevin) Jones of Greenwich, Shawn (Revita) Lewis of Stokesdale, NC, Katherine (Charles) Losito of Shelton, CT, Zachary Russell of Vicenza Veneto, Italy, Adam (Alissa) Russell of South Bend, IN, Christopher Lewis of Edgewater, FL and Alexandra Lewis of Waverly; five great-grandchildren: Ryan, Aidan, and Abigail Patricia Jones of Greenwich, and Elena Carolyn and Megan Rose Losito of Shelton CT; dozens of nieces and nephews and his dear friend, Doris Kimmerie of Saratoga Springs. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 6pm Friday, Aug. 12, 2011 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs 584-5373. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011 in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs by the Rev. Matthew B. Wetsel, associate pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at 2pm at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Waterville, NY. Donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN, 38101.
