IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sue Ellen
Walker
January 10, 1937 – December 26, 2023
Saratoga Springs, NY- Sue Ellen Moore Walker, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on December 26, 2023, at The Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs, NY.
She was born in Mooresville, IN on January 10, 1937, to parents Margaret and Everett Moore. She grew up in Plainfield, IN, where she graduated from high school. She graduated from Indiana University in 1959, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. Her first job, teaching third graders at Merle Seidener School in Indianapolis was a pleasure for her. She also enjoyed the summers she spent for many years greeting stars who arrived for Starlight Musicals. She arranged publicity jaunts at radio and TV stations, and found ways to meet the unique needs they presented. For 20 years she discovered that her work as Communications Associate at The Lilly Endowment brought her both professional and personal enrichment because of lasting friendships that were formed during that time.
Sue Ellen was married for 45 years to the late Philip Walker. They were both IU basketball fans, but Sue Ellen was an extremely enthusiastic supporter of the Indiana Pacers. For many years she could be found cheering them on from prized seats at almost all home games. Summer vacations were spent in Traverse City MI, where they enjoyed many things to see and do, especially access to the beaches of Lake Michigan. They traveled several times to visit their family in Saratoga Springs, NY. Trips were made to NYC, Lake Placid, the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA, and special places they enjoyed in Vermont, NH, and Maine. Sue Ellen was active in the Indianapolis Children's Museum Guild, serving as chairman of the Haunted House program and Guild president. She was active also in the Indianapolis Day Nursery Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother-in-law, David Long. She is survived by her sister, Joann Moore Long, her loving nieces, Susan Moyer and Melissa Drislane and their families in the Saratoga Springs, NY area.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 and are pending until Spring for services and burial in the Plainfield, IN cemetery.
If anyone wishes to remember her with a memorial, please choose a philanthropy of your choice.
