IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan P.
Ekiert
September 4, 1947 – February 24, 2021
Cohoes, NY- Susan P. Ekiert, 73, of Cohoes, NY, went peacefully to sleep and woke up in Heaven on February 24, 2021.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gretchen Schenk Ekiert. Susan graduated from Cohoes High School, Russell Sage College and the College of Saint Rose. She spent her entire teaching career in Saratoga Springs, retiring in 2002 from Geyser Road Elementary School.
Susan enjoyed and excelled at a variety of activities in her lifetime, among which were skiing, bowling, gardening, playing tennis and playing golf. She was an awesome contender on the golf course and made a number of lasting friendships on these outings. In keeping with her interest in sports, she also coached youngsters in the Saratoga Miss Softball League for several years. Susan was an avid Yankees fan at heart, and those who knew her best dared not interrupt her with a casual visit or phone call when her team was playing!
She loved experimenting with new recipes and cooking, and invited her dear friends to dine with her on many an occasion. Another of her favorite pleasures was her trip to Myrtle Beach each year with colleagues during Spring break. Gas rationing in the 70's unfortunately, put that destination on pause for a while. Not to be thwarted by that unwelcome deterrent, however, Susan and said friends all bought shiny lime green Kawasaki 90's and spent their vacation week joyriding around Saratoga on their brand new purchases! Susan really knew how to enjoy her years with us and lived life to its fullest.
She is survived by her brothers, Alan Ekiert of Bradenton, FL and Dale Ekiert of Sacramento, CA; sister Jane Ceccucci (Robert) of Cohoes, NY; nieces Heidi Ceccucci Voland (Shawn), Heather Ceccucci Travers (Michael); and grandnephew, Aiden Travers. She also leaves behind her beautiful Burmese cat, Oochie, taken in now by a wonderful friend.
Susan was cherished by many friends during her lifetime. Her message to those so close to her: "Do not be sad that I am gone. Be glad that I was here and we were friends." Her imprint on the lives of all those who knew her will be lasting, as she will be remembered as kind, generous, loyal, intelligent, feisty, genuine, and sincere….. We will miss you dearly, Susan (Sue!).
Susan's family would like to thank all her friends for the support and care they have shown her over the years of their enduring friendships. The family also expresses their deep appreciation to the whole staff of Eddy Village Green and Hospice for their loving care of Susan at the end of her life on this earth.
