Saratoga Springs - Sylvia A. (Sokol) Cousineau, Gick Road, passed away Friday evening (Dec. 18, 2009) at Mary's Haven following a long illness. She was 71. Born on Sept. 25, 1938 in Amsterdam, NY, she was a daughter of the late Sylvester William (S.W.) and Gertrude (Skonieczny) Sokol. A graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam and Fisher Jr. College in Boston, MA, she worked as a secretary for the federal and state governments for many years. Sylvia was a communicant of St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church and as a Eucharistic Minister, served communion to homebound parishioners and patients at Saratoga Hospital and nursing homes. She was also a member of the parish's Prayer Shawl ministry group. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Cousineau. Survivors include her daughter, Jamie Younes; one brother, Donald J. (Lucyna) Sokol of Queensbury; one sister, Sandra Blum of Saratoga Springs; five grandchildren, Vincent and Justin Cousineau, both of Quebec, Joshua Ball of Syracuse, Nicholas Kruger of Corinth and Isaiah Robinson of Saratoga Springs and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7pm Monday (Dec. 21, 2009) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday in St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Avenue. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue.
