Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Sylvia Anita Kaufmann died Sunday (January 10, 2010) following a short illness. She was 91 years old. Born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Mrs. Kaufmann moved to the Boston area after attaining a degree in music. In Boston, she was a student of Felix Fox, an important classical piano teacher. She married Frederick Kaufmann who predeceased her in 1997. After having two children she abandoned her career as a pianist. She was a gifted golfer and bridge player. For decades she was the woman's golfing champion at her country club in Newton, Massachusetts. She and her husband loved the arts, particularly classical music. They were subscribers to the Boston Symphony Orchestra until Fred retired and they then moved to Florida. Survivors include two sons, Bruce Kaufmann, of Needham, Massachusetts and John Kaufmann of Saratoga Springs. A memorial is planned for the spring in Boston. Memorial donations may be made to the Home Of The Good Shepherd Assisted Living Residences in Saratoga Springs. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Online remembrances may be made at www.burkefuneralhome.com.
