Obituary

Ballston Spa Sylvia Lois Newcomb went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 18, 2010. She was 77. Sylvia was born on August 20, 1932 in Glens Falls, daughter of the late Harold and Theresa Tefft. She is the widow of the late Donald Newcomb who passed away on January 3, 1983. She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law Donald Moon. Mrs. Newcomb was a self employed hair stylist in Wilton from 1969-1981. She was the Executive Director of the Saratoga Senior Citizen Center from 1981-1999. She was proud of the many programs she initiated at the center like the computer lab, line dancing and various exercise programs to name just a few. She also created a website and newsletter, most of all she was great at recruiting volunteers for the center. From July 2000 until December 2007, Sylvia was site manager for Belmont Management, Senior Housing. Sylvia loved music, traveling, ceramics and most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Newcomb (partner, Cherie Sarrisin), her son Gary (wife, Tammy) Newcomb, a grandson Joshua Newcomb (fiance Heather Towers), a granddaughter Heather Newcomb (fianc Michael Hall), her sisters Jean T. Moon, Evelyn Moon (husband Ted Moon), a brother, Earl Tefft (partner Kathy), and her great grandchildren Tyler, Jocelyn, Alexis, Bailey, Chloe, Ella and Bradley and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the Old Stone Church, 159 Stone Church Road in Ballston Spa with Pastor Howard L. Sheffey and Richard C. Smith, officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the Southside Cemetery of South Glens Falls, New York. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Old Stone Church, 159 Stone Church Rd., Ballston Spa, NY 12020. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373).
