Stuyvesant, NY - Thomas J. Maher, Jr., formerly of Saratoga Springs, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital. He is 60. Born on July 9, 1953 in Saratoga Springs, he was a son of the late Thomas J. and Catherine T. (Reardon) Mahar, Sr. A 1971 graduate of the former St. Peter's Academy, he received his BA degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University. Tom was a dedicated member of the New York State Police, beginning his career on October 19th, 1981 with Troop B. He was also assigned to the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force, CNET Capital and Troop K. During his service with the Drug Enforcement task force, he received two Superintendent Letters of Commendation. He retired in January of 2008 with the rank of Senior Investigator following 27 years of service. A member of the Adirondack chapter of AFNYST, Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and riding his Harley. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his step-mother, Alice Hoyt Maher. Survivors include his wife, Maureen K. (Noonan) Maher; two daughters, Erin and son-in-law Rob, of Colonie and Meaghan of Washington, DC; his adored grandson, Robert Thomas; one brother Bill and sister-in-law Theresa; one sister, Mary Krywy and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, followed by burial in St. Peter's Cemetery.
