Ballston Spa, NY - Thomas Benedict Mangano, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Monday (July 13, 2009) in Boston, MA. He was 57. Born on May 17, 1952 in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Anna (Valente) Mangano. Thomas was a graduate of Schenectady County Community College. He began his career as a firefighter for the Albany Fire Department on September 24,1973. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1987 and then to Captain in 1996, retiring from the department on March 7, 1998. Thomas was also a paramedic and worked on the Haz-Mat team as well as a security guard at the Clifton Park Library. He enjoyed fishing, muscle cars, wood working, gardening, and his home. His greatest love was spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by one brother, Gerald Mangano. Survivors include his loving wife, Gloria (Moore) Mangano of Ballston Spa; one son, Jerry Mangano and his wife Jeanette of Voorheesville; two daughters, Stephanie DiGiuseppe and her husband Armond of Saratoga Springs and Angelina Santiago and her husband Steven of Porter Corners; one sister, Christine Slingerland of Scotia; six grandchildren,Thomas and Ryan DiGiuseppe, Sara Kalisz, Devan, Kyra and Jessica Santiago and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8pm Friday (July 17, 2009) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, by the Rev. Neil Draves-Arpaia.
