Auriesville, NY - Thomas J. McNicholas passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 89. Born on Aug. 26, 1922 in Johnstown, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Smullen) McNicholas. Thomas worked for the NY Central Railroad, Conrail and Amtrack, starting his career as a track laborer on the main line in Fonda, NY. Later he became a freight agent, towerman and ticket agent before retiring in 1983. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jean C. Smith McNicholas; two children, Thomas M. (Martha) McNicholas of Laguna Niquel, CA and Susan M. (Charles) Veeder of Middle Grove; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael McNicholas, Katie Veeder Smith and Jodi Veeder. There will be no public services and burial will be in the Auriesville Cemetery at a later date. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff and residents of Prestwick Chase for all their kindness and support at this difficult time.
