Wilton, NY - Thomas (Tom) S. Ondreyko, died unexpectedly on Thursday (May 18, 2017), playing the game he greatly loved, golf. He was 68.
Born on Dec. 12, 1948 in Johnson City, he is a son of Anne (Melish) Ondreyko and the late Fred Ondreyko. Tom worked most of his life as a salesman and retired from the General Electric Company. In 1988, he joined Saratoga Council 246 Knights of Columbus and was recently recognized as an Old Timer earlier last week at the council. Further, he was an honorary member of Saratoga Assembly 745 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the historic Church of St. Peter. His many interests included golf and was well-known as an avid thoroughbred horse racing enthusiast, often seen at the August races at Saratoga's racecourse backstretch. A true family man, he loved his grandchildren and their many accomplishments. Tom also generously donated many volunteer hours to the students and athletes of Saratoga Central Catholic High School over the years.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of 48 years, Catherine (Cathy) Ondreyko; two children, Jennifer (Lloyd) Davis, Jr., and Michael Ondreyko, all of Saratoga Springs; three grandchildren, Myah and Adrianna (AL) Ondreyko and Marcus Davis; one brother, Daniel Ondreyko of Owego and his faithful companion and man's best friend, Sammy.
Relatives and friends may call from 3 to 7pm Wednesday (May 24, 2017) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway 584-5373.
Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at 6pm Wednesday at the funeral home for their service.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Thursday in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Rev. Thomas H. Chevalier, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave.
