Saratoga Springs, NY - Thomas “Tom” Bayer, 61, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his family.
Born August 28, 1964, he was the son of the late William Bayer and Nancy Male. Tom grew up in Saratoga Springs, the city he loved deeply. He dedicated 42 years of service to Skidmore College, and was known for his sharp wit, and kindness to all he met.
Affectionately known as “the mayor,” Tom never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome. He was loyal, generous, and devoted to his family.
Tom will be remembered for his unmistakable smile, his generosity, his love for his family and the friendships he built over a lifetime. He will live on in the stories shared and the hearts he touched. His legacy remains in the people who loved him and in the countless lives made brighter because he was here.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, John Harris and William “BJ” Bayer and his niece April Bayer.
Tom is survived by his companion Lynda Sardo; three children, Casey Nichols (JJ), Bradford Bayer (Miranda) and their mother Michelle Bielkiewicz, Karli Garmley (Joel) and her mother Kelley Bayer; five grandchildren, Ava Delaurie, Brycen Bayer, Brodey Bayer, Bradford Bayer and Malckolm Garmley; five step-grandchildren, Sutton Nichols, Adriel Mount, James Patton, Chris Patton and Gabriel Dalman; three sisters; Kathy Gochenour (Chuck), Colleen Norris (George) and Holly Bayer (Jim); his brother Daniel Harris (Jennifer); his stepmother, Marjorie Bayer; his aunt Sandy Crooks and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 1 to 4pm at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 (518-584-5373). A Celebration of Life will follow the calling hours at the ITAM Dominick Smaldone Post 35, 247 Grand Ave., Saratoga Springs.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Burial will take place at the family plot in St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave., Saratoga Springs.
