Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY- Victor Carl Cinquino, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born on February 20, 1945, Vic was the son of Victor and Mary (Foti) Cinquino, the last of four children. He attended Catholic Schools including, St. John the Baptist and Bishop Gibbons High School, where he was a member of the first graduating class of 1962. Vic earned an Associates Degree from Hudson Valley Community College in Construction Technology and a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1968.

Vic interned with the former Donald J. Stephens Associates in Albany, NY where he was assigned to the design team for what was then the Saratoga Retirement Center (Wesley Nursing Home Embury Towers). He relocated to Saratoga Springs in 1972 and joined The Saratoga Associates, where upon receiving his license, became a Principal of the firm. Vic was responsible for a variety of projects including the SPAC box office, the Saratoga County Facilities Building Solar Design/Application, work on Union College (Schenectady, NY), Bowdoin College (Brunswick, ME) and dormitory renovations at Mary Baldwin College (Staunton, VA).

In 1980, Vic opened Cinquino Associates P.C. (architectural & engineering) with his brother, John V. Cinquino. His earliest projects included the original Gazebo at SPAC, the adaptive reuse of the Community Building in Saratoga Springs and the renovation of 36 Phila Street into The Children's Museum. The practice transitioned into Cinquino-Piper Associates with the addition of Patrick W. Piper as Principal. Subsequent projects included the renovation of 69 Caroline Street into the second phase of The Children's Museum, additions to St. Mary's School in Ballston Spa and all types of affordable and geriatric housing, custom homes and small commercial and institutional work in locations/locals ranging from Chateaugay, NY down to the adaptive reuse of the Acton Civil Institute in Coeymans, NY- which won the NYS Historic Preservation Project of the year. In 1998, the practice transitioned once again in Victor Carl Cinguino, Architect, focusing on high profile single-family housing and small commercial projects.

Vic was most proud of his modern houses, especially those designed for his local clients. Vic received recognition in 2003 in Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publications and most recently in "Simply Saratoga" for his architectural designs.

Vic was active in community affairs. He was a member of the Saratoga Springs Design Review Commission and a member of the Community Block Grant Committee for many years.

A modernist by nature with a strong passion for true abstract modern art, Vic opened Cinqui-Studio on July 19, 2011 at 36 Phila Street in the old Palmetto Fruit Warehouse. It was there that he began creating digital art. Many of Vic's works can be seen locally throughout Saratoga Springs.

Vic was an active member of the Saratoga Springs Rotary Club and was elected President in 1995-96. He was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award in 1996 and in 1997 became the founding Trustee and Vice-President of the Saratoga Springs Rotary Education Foundation.

Vic was a free-spirited thinker who had a zest for life. He was an accomplished wood worker and was self-taught in many of the areas in which he excelled. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, reading and creating abstract art.

He was a communicant of St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church in Saratoga Springs.

Vic leaves behind his wife of thirty-eight years, Deborah (McCarthy); his brother, John V. Cinquino; his sister in law, Rose Cinquino; his mother in law, Mary K. McCarthy; his brother in law, Dennis S. McCarthy (Teri) and several nieces and nephews on both the East and West coasts who have been a constant source of love, comfort and support.

Vic was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Philomena (Karl) Berg; his brother, Michael J. Cinquino; his beloved sister-in-law, Beverly Cinquino and his closest dearest friend, Richard Mundle.
