Stillwater, NY – Warren Becker "Buddy" Schell passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the age of 92 with his loving family by his side.
Born in Albany on February 25, 1927, he was the son of the late Howard and Dorothy Becker Schell. Warren was raised and educated in Altamont with his brothers Howard, Jr. and Carl. He spent his summers on his grandparent's farm in Berne and as a young adult worked as a painter alongside his father.
Warren enlisted in the United States Navy proudly serving his country during World War II.
Upon his return from the Navy and through his cousin, he met Catherine Mildred "Mooie" DeCelle of Mechanicville on a blind date on April 17, 1945. Warren and Mildred were married on August 10, 1947 in Mechanicville, where they initially resided before settling in Stillwater to raise their three daughters.
Employed by the Westvaco Pulp and Paper Mill and at the General Electric Silicone plant, Warren served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Hemstreet Park Fire Department and the Arvin Hart Fire Company. An active veteran, he was a member of the Earl J. Manning American Legion Post 490 in Stillwater. As a singer, he entertained with the Racing City Chorus, Uncle Sam Chorus, and Joyous Sound Barbershop Chorus. For many years, Warren proudly displayed his 1932 Ford Model B at car shows throughout the northeast.
In addition to his parents and brothers, Warren was predeceased by his sons-in-law Tom Antolick and Fred Stay.
Warren is survived by his loving wife of 72 years Milly; daughters Kathy Antolick, Patty Stay, and Sharon (Jeff) Mahar; grandchildren Susan (Dave) Morrison, Scott (Tara) Antolick, Kristen (Charles Smith) Batchelder, Toby (Joanna) Stay, Taylor (Bev) Stay, Shane (Amanda) Mahar, Brady (Donna) Mahar, and Trevor Stay; great-grandchildren Scott Carter Antolick, Jordan Lichtenberger, Elizabeth and Colby Batchelder, Jesse and Tanner Stay, Evan and Keegan Antolick, Easton and Zyler Stay, and Jack, Emma, and Nina Mahar.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Eddy Heritage House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, St. Peter's Hospital, and The Community Hospice for their tender care.
There will be no calling hours.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass 10am Saturday, August 10, 2019 at All Saints on the Hudson North Church, 895 Hudson Ave, Stillwater by the Rev. Patrick Rice, pastor.
Burial with military honors will be private at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
