Wilton, NY - William "Bill" Cogswell passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital on January 20th, 2015 with his loving family at his side. Born on June 17, 1939 in South Hampton, Long Island, NY, he was the son of the late John W. and Lucy Cogswell. Bill graduated with his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in 1961, and went on to receive two Masters Degrees from Brown University and Dartmouth. He spent thirty six years as Chairman of the Math Department at Hanover (NH) High School. Bill was a beloved teacher and very active at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and in his community. He met and married his wife Martha Buck in 1961 and they were married for 53 years. After retirement he and his wife moved to Wilton, New York, where they were very active in the Saratoga Hospital Guild. Bill served as treasurer and was part of the team that helped to open the new "Treasures" Facility where he continued to volunteer for years. He was a substitute teacher for the Saratoga Springs School District and a parishioner of St. Stephen's Church of Schuylerville, NY. Bill and Martha loved to travel with their family, Anne and John More, of Saratoga Springs, NY. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Martha; his brother Jack Cogswell of Needham, MA; his three sons, David of Rochester Hills, MI and his wife Janet, Brian of Lee, MA and his wife, Liz, Jonathan of Jersey City, NJ and his partner, Ed; four grandchildren, Amanda and Zachary of Rochester Hills, MI and William and Rachel of Lee, MA. He leaves many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Bill will be remembered for his kind and generous nature and will be missed by many. Bill's family would like to most sincerely thank the staff of Saratoga Hospital and the Saratoga Hospital Nursing Home for their care and love during his illness. A memorial service will be celebrated at 12noon at the funeral home. There will be a Celebration of Life Service for William in the spring in Hanover, NH. Details will be listed at a later date.
