Glens Falls, NY- William (Bill) Anthony Massad Jr., 90, passed away peacefully with his loving daughter, Lorie, by his side on Monday, March 25, 2024, at The Pines in Glens Falls.
Born in Albany, NY on June 29, 1933, he was the son of the late, William Anthony and Gussie (Gordon) Massad Sr.
Bill enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1953 to 1956 before being honorably discharged to the Army Reserves. During his time in the Army, Bill was a paratrooper. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Parachutist Badge.
After his discharge, Bill served with the Albany Police Department from 1961 to 1973. He was promoted to Police Sergeant in 1970 while earning his associate degree in applied science from Hudson Valley Community College.
Bill was an Administrative Supply Technician for the National Guard at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, NY. He also worked as a Projectionist at the Delaware Avenue Theater in Albany and the Auto Vision Drive-In in East Greenbush, NY. In his later years, he became a real estate agent, a bus driver for children with special needs and a fixture at his local Burger King where he brought much joy to the workers. His quick wit and dry sense of humor will be missed by all that shared a laugh with him.
Bill was a Third-Degree member of the Saratoga Council #246 Knights of Columbus for over sixteen years and also a member of the Saratoga Assembly #745 Fourth-Degree Knights of Columbus. A regular attendee at meetings, he volunteered for numerous activities and over the years assisted with the weekly Bingo committee.
Bill had many interests, including chess, gardening, photography, reading, bowling, archery, target shooting, dog training and karate.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn and his brother-in- law, Joseph Nadareski.
Survivors include his daughters, Lorie and Rebecca Massad, nieces, and nephews, as well as his special friend, Pam Greene.
A private burial with military honors will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12831. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at The Pines at Glens Falls Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for the care and compassion they showed Bill during his time with them.
